Translation by the New King James Version
Commentary by Robert D. Mock MD
The Day of the Lord demands an active preparation by his servants (saints)
for He will come as a thief. (Secret Rapture or Unexpected Rapture?)
Can we now see, the Angel of the Lord (Yahshua) state, “How long will You not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which You were angry these seventy years? (Zechariah 1:12)
Then the Angel of the Lord, Yahshua, proclaimed:
Zechariah 1:14-17, parts -
“Thus says the Lord of hosts;
I am zealous for Jerusalem
And for Zion with great zeal.
I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease;
For I was a little angry,
And they helped –but with evil intent….
My house shall be built in it,
And a surveyor’s line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”….
“And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, (pre-millennial resurrection) some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt. Compare with Revelation 20:5, 12) those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.”
This passage does tie in some interesting parallels. Let us first look at Michael, known as the Archangel or the Prince over God’s people. There are only five references to Michael in the Bible. The first three are in Daniel,
Daniel 12:1-3 “At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people (the Jews), and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.”
Here, Michael is called a prince and is associated with watching or guarding over the Jewish people at the end of times during the final days of tribulation, called the Time of Trouble. This Michael is also around when the first resurrection is done at the second coming of Christ. The second text gives a picture of another celestial and inter-dimensional struggle. Daniel was by the Tigris River mourning and fasting for three weeks, when he saw a being of indescribable majesty.
Daniel 10:5 - “I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen (priests wore linen), whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz! His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of these words like the voice of a multitude (many waters)”
This same certain man came hundreds of years later to John, who:
Revelation 1:12-16 - “saw seven golden lamp stands, and in the midst of the seven lamp stands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment (linen) down to the feet and girded about the chest with a gold band (gold of Uphaz). His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire (torches of fire), His feet were like fine brass (burnished bronze), as if refined in a furnace and His voice as the sound of many waters. He had in His right (active) hand seven stars (seven churches), out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.”
Only Daniel saw this being like the ‘Son of Man’, yet his friends fled as in an immense terror. Something was happening and the power of might was in the presence of this Being. Who was this being? No, He was not God, the Lord of Hosts, but he was the ‘Son of Man’, Yahshua. Daniel fell into a deep sleep with his face to the ground, while John fell at His feet as dead.
With the gesture of great courtesy, Yahshua in His pre-carnate glory, apologized for the three week delay since Daniel began praying and fasting. He told Daniel he had been sent because ‘you have set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God.” (Daniel 10:10) Was Yahshua the God of Daniel? Did He send Himself or was He sent? And why the delay?
Daniel 10:13-14 - “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refer to many days yet to come.”
Once again we see this celestial being, Yahshua, who apparently was confronted and in conflict by an evil angel who was the guardian of the king of Persia. For twenty-one earth days He was delayed in an apparent conflict from delivering a message with Daniel.
After he introduces this celestial being he introduces His mission to Daniel. He would give him a prophecy of the future. After his mission was accomplished, Yahshua, the Son of Man said;
Daniel 10:21 - “And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come. But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. No one upholds Me against these, except Michael your prince.”
Once again we see Michael, the prince of the people of God, called also Daniel’s or Daniel’s people’s prince. Note closely though, many have felt that Michael and the pre-carnate Christ were the same Being. Yet, the Son of Man, Yahshua (Jesus), differentiates Himself from Michael, the prince, who is the one who ‘upholds’ Christ.
In the Book of Jude, we find Michael disputing with the devil over the body of Moses when states;
Jude 9 – “Yet Michael the archangel, in contention with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you!’”
The clues continue. Now Michael is an archangel, commissioned by God to dispute over the rights to the body of Moses. When one understands the sefirot of the four creations of God as seen by the Jewish mystics, Yahshua, the Son of God is embodied in the center of the World of the Divine (White) and known as Yahweh Elohim and Metatron, the leading Archangel. As Yahshua represents the Lord of hosts, God the Father, in the center of the world of the divine, called the Tiferet or Beauty, so also Michael, the Archangel, is embodied in the center of the second world of creation, the angelic world.
Though part of the world of the divine, Yahshua (Jesus) assumes the role of the king or the leader of the world of the angelic hosts. Some Christians have rightly called Yahshua as the Leaders of the Angelic Hosts, the Chief Angel, where actually he is the king, called the Keter crown of this spiritual angelic realm.
So who is Michael? This is Michael the prince or chief angel who represents Yahshua. As the archangel at the center or Tiferet or center of the angelic realm, he is Christ’s representative of the angelic world. Yes, he is the prince of the people of Daniel, the chosen ones, the Jews and all the Israelites. Why? The Israelites, as the chosen ones of God represent God’s formal channel of communication to this planet, the holders of the oracles of God and the genetic seed in which God chose to send His son.
The final passage we find in Revelation is over the final war in heaven,
Revelation 12:7-9 - “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
The only other passage in the Bible that mentions an archangel is in reference also to the resurrection and the seventh trumpet of the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4: 15-18 – For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
Does this identify Michael with the same identity as Jesus, as the Lord descending from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel and with the (seventh) trumpet of God? Or does this text identify Yahshua as descending into this planet’s dimensional space, accompanied with the shout of an archangel, Michael, who also is heralding with the seventh trumpet of the Lord the last and final trumpet plague? Biblical evidence leans to the latter.
From all appearances, we are able to visualize an angelic being called Michael, an archangel, who appears to be the signet archangel that represents the very presence of the Person, Yahshua (Jesus), the Son of Man and the Son of God. Michael will also be the Archangel who will deliver the final trumpet of the Lord, the seventh trumpet and Christ descends in the clouds of glory.
Compare this with the Seventh Vial or Bowl Plague in Revelation 16:17, while this vision of this event was by an observer watching it from heaven.
1 Thessalonians 1:10 – “For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, …and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait (literally) for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath (literally) to come.”
1 Corinthians 1:7 – “Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. (a literal event)”
Let us now explore these texts describing a ‘sharp two edged sword or the ‘rod of iron’, both of which are described as coming out of the mouth of Jesus.
Here is a fascinating text on the divinity versus the deity of Jesus. Roman Orthodox Christianity claims the role of deity to the nature of Jesus in the Nicene Creed and is used as a whipping pole to all Christian bodies of believers as to whether they are actually a Christian denomination or a Christian sect with all the pejoratives that go with it. Seventh-day Adventists came under this attack of being called a “cult” in the early 50’s with books accusing them of being cultic and sectarian and not being fully Christian. Prior to this era, there was a strong alignment of Seventh-day Adventism that was Arian or semi-Arian in the acceptance that Jesus was a created being, the first of God’s creation.
Here is one of the key texts in the nature of Jesus and his primary role outlined in the apocalyptic texts in the Old Testament. Also, here is the key identity between Old Testament and New Testament time of the end theology. Compare this with John in Revelation 2.
Revelation 2:25-29 – “But hold fast what you have till I come. And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations – ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’ (Psalms 2:9) – as I also have received from My Father; and I will give him the morning star. ‘He, who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
In Psalms, it is clearly, God the Father, the Lord of hosts, who claims, ‘I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion’. This clearly is in reference to Yahshua who will come as King of kings and Lord of lords and claim Zion in Jerusalem as His Holy Mount. It also clearly defines the separateness of dimensional characteristics of Yahshua has as opposed to His Father, the monotheistic, Almighty God.
In this same text we also see the beginning of the pre-carnate nature of Yahshua’s being, as God began the process of creation. “The Lord has said to Me, You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” Once again, we see that the nature of Jesus’ being is different than nature of His Father. The nature is not a difference in substance or attributes, but whatever difference there is, it was Yahshua nature to bring the awesome power and energy of the Almighty God in another dimensional sphere. At this point a large segment of Christendom will rise up in protest. Here me out, so we are sure we are speaking the same language.
The Arian, or a believer that Christ is a created non-divine being, and the anti-Arians called the followers of Athanasius, or believers that Christ is divine and part of the deity of God the Father, are two polarity opinions in a long and vicious debate in early Christendom. This debate eventually made both of the parties in this debate most un-Christ-like, or more like people doing evil things. It actually was a Hebrew concept of God put upon a Greek philosophy of creation, called Creation ex-nihilo, or creation out of nothing that became the fulcrum of this debate. It was like trying to put a square block in a round hole.
The Hebrews did not believe we were created out of nothing. They believe we were created with the very attributes and image of God. Through these emanations or attributes flowing out from the Throne of God, through the Tiferet or Beauty, the central focal point of the world of the divine, all creation including man was made. What is different about man? Instead of being created with one or several of these attributes of God, that angels and even lower animal species are created, man’s being, the “image of God” included all the attributes of God the Father, yet in a far diminished sphere or in a lower dimensional plane.
Modern science and even quantum physics is still struggling to understand the nature of living creatures in this three-dimensional world. It is therefore folly for us to assume we even understand a miniscule of the knowledge of what life is like in other dimensions. Let us assume that God, in His infinite wisdom, has the ability to clone Himself into another dimension. Does this make two God’s? No! Yet the other dimension is inferior in power and eminence. Let us put this in our sphere. Suppose you have the ability to replicate yourself in a holographic form and put your being and image in miniature so that you could see and interact with it while it stands in miniature on the tip of your finger. Suppose you have the power and intelligence to make this image of yourself also have all of your internal organs, a miniature heart and a mind. The only limitation, this being can only understand the limits of the world or dimensional sphere in which he resides. With a pure interaction between you and you mini-holographic clone you could in reality experience what it is like to live in another yet inferior dimension.
Do you really know what it is like to live as your son or daughter is living today. Though they have only half of your genes, their identity as your son or daughter allows you to have a special interaction with them. Why? Because you have the capacity to know and to understand them. The problems with parents and children are less because we don’t understand them, than the fact that it hurts so much to understand them, because they are so much like us. Through them you vicariously can relive out your own life again. Does this make man the progenitor of eventually becoming God? Absolutely not! What it does do is to allow God to experience exactly what you and I think, feel, and care about.
On the angelic sphere, in his pre-carnate state, Jesus, as the leading Archangel, represented as the Captain of the Lord of hosts, allowed Him to understand and experience life in the angelic dimensions. This was the same Angel of the Lord, called the Captain of the Lord of hosts, which met Joshua prior to the battle of Jericho?
And so Adam was created in the ‘image of God’. Also a “son of God”, Adam represented this planet as other “sons of God” represent life forms on other planets in the universe. Created as a sefirot, or that same image as God, who was the image of the world of the Divine, so Adam was the sefirot of the world of Formation. Compare this idea with the meetings of the sons of God in the heavenly council in the Book of Job and the twenty four elders who seat around the throne of God in the Book of Revelation.
Because Satan, who usurped Adam’s position as our representative, and an arrogant maligning representative he was, went to heaven in Adam’s place, he truly made a faulty representative. Not only was Satan not made in the ‘image’ of God, because he was not created as a sefirot, he also could not access all the thoughts, feelings and emotions of us humanoids. In reality, he was a rebellious terrorist. He was the first, and the model of a long line of terrorist’s archetypes in the history of man; devious, deceitful, not caring, parasitic, and an overpowering controlling being. Out of him come all the attributes of power, greed and control.
As God lowered Himself to clone Himself into the world of the angelic beings in the pre-carnate Son of God, so God once again lowered this pre-carnate Son of God out of the angelic sphere into our three-dimensional world. So into this world came a babe, the son of Mary of the lineages of David of the House of Judah and also the House of Levi. Yes truly he was a Melchizedek, the perfect priest-king.
Psalms 110:5-6 – “The Lord (Lord of Hosts) said to my Lord (Yahshua), ‘Sit at My right hand (active side), till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’ The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies!
Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; in the beauties of holiness, form the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth. The Lord has sworn and will not relent, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.’”
Up until the second coming of Jesus stands as our priest in the heavenly sanctuary. As our High Priest, He will enter the Holiest of Holies and present the blood of His death and sacrifice as sufficient in the legal courts of heaven to blot out our evil deeds. When He exits from the Holy of Holiest on the last Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement and the Day of Judgment on this earth, He will come from behind the Daat, the dimensional veil that shields the Ein Sof, the Hidden and All Powerful God, crowned and robed in the regalia of the King of kings and Lord of lords. This will begin the Great Day of the Lord.
Apparently this revolt in the angelic world had begun prior to the birth of Yahshua. Along with a third of the angelic forces of heaven, Satan now had the power and dominion to present himself before the Christ child and seek ways to exterminate His life.
Revelation 12:4 – “His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne.”
Once again, this child, Jesus, had a future. He was to eventually ‘rule all nations with a rod of iron.’ Notice carefully how it states, He was to rule not to destroy all nations with a rod of iron. Many apocalyptic believers in the second coming of Jesus, believe his coming will be a quick rapture of the remaining good people and a scorch earth policy that will destroy all life left on this earth. To them, when Satan is bound to the Abyss in the thousand years, he is trapped in three dimensional space on this desolate earth.
According to the prophets and John, he is to rule but to whom is he to rule? The chosen saints are immortalized, the 144,000 are standing before the throne of God and the great multitude will be standing on the sea of glass. Are these the ones to be ruled? Let us look at John’s description of the second coming of Jesus. Outside of it being literal and accessible to all the senses in our three dimensional world, let us define its intent and purpose.
Revelation 19:11-16 - “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of Fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of fierceness and wrath of Almighty God... And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS.”
As the Kings of the people were to do in the days of old, so Jesus will do in His role as the King of kings in the millennial kingdom. Why the millennial kingdom? Why is this world not perfect in this era? Are not the saints to be made immortal and put in glorified bodies during this time? According to Isaiah, with the rod in His mouth, He will judge with righteousness, and with justice he will make decisions and use this rod to strike the earth and by the breath of his lips, will slay the wicked.
Isaiah 11:3-5 - “He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.”
Contrary to what many Christians think, sanctification, the process of separating ourselves away from the evil of this world, is a process more profound than just saying, “I believe” and letting Jesus do the rest. We must give up our lives and follow him in the same manner that Jesus did in Judah and Galilee. He had to depend upon his father and did not know the next path he would take. This is a self-less life, one like a bond-servant, whose identity is totally to help and protect his master. Did not Isaiah 110:6 state;
Isaiah 110:6 – “Your people (Israelites) shall be volunteers in the day of Your power; in the beauties of holiness, form the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth. The Lord has sworn and will not relent, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchezadik.”
Day of the Lord demands an active preparation by his servants (saints)
He will come as a thief. (Secret Rapture or Unexpected Rapture?)
Revelation16:15 – “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walks naked and they see his shame.” And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.
The sixth seal is over in Revelation 16, when the Euphrates is dried up so that a way can be prepared for the kings of the east to mobilize their forces towards the city of Jerusalem. These forces will be demonically controlled and driven by three evil spirits. Are these people in control of their moral senses? No. They have one passion, to control, possess and destroy. The power of Israel will appear to be so great at this time, with the past evidences of their God, working miraculously in their favor, that all the nations of the world will speak in one accord, Israel must be subdued, overcomed and destroyed. The Nation of Israel in that day will be a different Israel that she is today. As a nation, she will have been purified and tried in fire, a process that God is in complete control. As we look at the nations of the world today, and the miniscule spot on the globe that Israel calls her own, why are we so afraid?
Give us a break! It is not military power. In spite of having nuclear warheads, the United States could obliterate Israel in a moment will little risk of collateral fallout on its soil. For that matter, Russia could do the same, and not let even one battalion of troops head towards Israel. No, the troops and armies of around the world will all congregate at the gates of Jerusalem in one vast plain, the plain of Megiddo. But what is happening to the rest of the people around the world. The whole global population will not be at Jerusalem!
Matthew 24:36 – “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as in the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”
Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would have come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Okay, life as usual. The rest of the world will be doing what they have been doing for six thousand years, living, eating, socializing and procreating. The forces of the nations of the world will be our mercenaries and we can enjoy the spectacle by satellite TV. Two things have happened to the world by this time. The six last plagues will have caused vast disasters upon this earth, killing billions of people. Life will be one of fear and trepidation of another stellar hit. From all appearances, these cosmic induced disasters will appear to the regular human population to be caused by two global political terrorists, the two witnesses, strange men in ancient garbs who have access to significant cosmic powers living in the land of Israel.
To the world government leaders, any potential attack against Israel has been repelled, any threat has been met with global disasters and conventional and nuclear power appears to be deactivated by the other dimensional powers of these two Israeli leaders. Out of all these disasters, Israel will have stood protected, thriving, the field brimming with the fruits of harvest, the latter rain bringing an abundance of water. Vast pockets in the rest of the world will be starving with all potable water sources contaminated with iron oxide, dying fields of harvest, livestock rotting in the fields. Those areas still untouched by the last six plagues will be diligently trying to preserve the remnants of civilization and party and reveling the rest of the time to care for their depressions and anxieties of the future. The vast populations of the world will be stuck on a horizontal plane of living, interacting only with other human. They have totally forgotten to look up, take your mind vertical and try to perceive the mission of God in this whole earth. Yet will this be a secret rapture or an unexpected rapture?
Luke, when he approaches the coming of Yahshua, intimates the necessity of watching, waiting, and preparing and is expecting his coming at the most unusual hour. What is of interest, the second coming of Jesus is after the wedding, so therefore it is assumed that the bride is already in that other dimensional world called heaven or the throne of God. Who then is he coming for? His servants? Yet we see the twists of spiritual realities. The servants are served by the Master.
Luke 12:35-40 – “Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, that he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately. Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. But know this that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Maybe there is something to the texts that suggest that the holy ones that will return with Jesus at the second coming are not just the angels, but also human saints that are returning with him for the remnant of the saints that are left. For those who suggest that the dead in Christ who will be resurrected at the second coming, are just the resurrection of the physical bodies for their spiritual bodies are already in heaven and have been bonded with Christ at the wedding, what about the texts that suggest we await in our graves, as asleep, awaiting the coming of the Lord. Will the wedding be only a dream and we will have to collect our physical bodies to figure out what we actually did in the wedding? How creative we get in our spiritual philosophizing.
Every segment of scripture when taken in context of the whole suggests that life after the second coming is not a retraction of the whole of creation that God created in the beginning. Let us remember that after each step of creation, He pronounced it good. Does that mean He will annihilate all the rest of his creation, the mountain, trees, birds, flowers, animals and fish? This to me would be an abrogation of the real intention of God. Rather I would suggest that He seeks to restore. The theme of the prophets in the Old Testament is the restoration of the people of God and the restoration of this earth. Must we be so arrogant to suggest that God seek not to restore but to rescue us from this evil earth and deposit us in some other dimensional world? What about the cats and dogs, the horses, lambs and other creatures that have given so much meaning to our lives? We will talk about that later in a discussion of the millennial kingdom and the new earth, but combining the themes of the Old and the New Testament suggests that the millennium is a process of restoration, so that larger numbers of the world population can be saved. These are those that fear the Lord, but may not actually know Him.
Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom that all peoples, nations and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.”
Once again, here is the picture of Jesus, as our High Priest, approaching the Lord of hosts, here portrayed as the Ancient of Days, in the Holy of Holiest where the Throne of the Almighty resides. On this day, Yon Kippur, Yahshua is ‘given dominion and glory and a kingdom that all peoples, nations and languages should serve Him.”
Up until this time, Jesus, since his ascension to the Throne of His Father, has been sitting at the right hand of God and serving as our High Priest.
Hebrews 9:11 - But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Of the blood goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.”
In reference to the High Priesthood of Christ, the first thing to know is that Jesus did not prepare for this job, he did not nominate Himself for this job, but as Aaron was appointed to the position of priest by God Himself (Exodus. 28:1) and also the succeeding High Priests after him, (Num. 20:23-28; 25:10-13) so Jesus was appointed by His Father to be the High Priest of this planet earth.
Hebrews 5:5-6, 10 - “So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: You are My son, Today I have begotten you.” (Psalms 2:7) But He also says in another place: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek” (Psalms 110:4)….called by God as High Priest, ‘according to the order of Melchizedek.’ To whom we have much to say and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.”
When Yahshua came to this earth the first time in Judea, he avoided and shunned any pretense of royal aspirations. Only as He sat upon the donkey and walked into the gates into the city, as a king did He portray in type His future role as King of kings. He came as the Suffering Servant, the Maschiach ben Joseph. There is no picture of Jesus in the era after His death and resurrection, for the last two thousand years that He is portrayed as a king, a deity, a monarch or any action associated with royal intent. Yet prior to His coming, He will be crowned King of king and Lord of lord (Daniel 7:14) and return as ruler of this earth.
1 Corinthians 15:22-24 – For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the first-fruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. Then comes the end, when He (Yahshua) delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He put an end to all rule and all authority and Power. For He must reign till he has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. …Now when all things are made subject to Him (the Lord of Hosts) then the Son Himself (Yahshua) will also be subject to Him (the Lord of Hosts) who put all things under Him (Yahshua), that God (the Lord of Hosts) may be all in all.”
Here, after the coming of Christ, a millennium, or a thousand years will be determined upon the rest of the earth. Here the millennial kingdom will be ruled.
Revelation 20:1-6 – “Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven…laid hold of the dragon,…Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit (Abyss), shut him up and set a seal on him….And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. …and they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. …this is the first resurrection. (at the coming of Jesus)
Does the text infer or imply that Satan will be roaming to and fro upon this earth in a desolate state? He not only is shut up but a seal is put on him. He will be limited to a spiritual sphere by a power that man does not currently possess. A bottomless pit also suggests a recess within the earth. The Abyss is a mysterious place, because it appears to be a place for incarcerated spirit beings. It was known as the abode of the demons and evil angels. Called Abussos, or Tatooros, this place was not a place for evil and wicked people. It was a dark, literally and spiritually, place where demons and was generally contrasted to the sky as a place unfathomable to the human eye and discernable only to God. It was known as the abode of the evil and the demons (Romans 10:7, Luke 8:31), the abode of the Antichrist (the beast that ascends out of the Abyss) (Revelation 11:7, 17:8) and the abode of Abaddon or Apollyon, the leading angel of the underworld (Revelation 9:11) and capable of being sealed. (Revelation 21:1-3)
After Satan is bound and sealed up for a thousand years, suddenly John saw thrones being set up and judgment was committed. In the Hebrew times, the king was also the judge of the nation. We are now reverting back to a monarchial theocracy. And then it says, they lived and reigned a thousand years. It is understandable that some of the saints will be investigating the Books of Deeds so they can understand the meaning of the judgment that was placed upon the wicked at the second coming of Jesus. But when you set up a throne, this assumes rulership as well as judgment. During the millennium, death will not have been conquered or eliminated. So also genetic evil that is imbedded into the DNA of any human beings who survived the death of the national forces of the Anti-Messiah that were preparing to assault of God at Megiddo, will also have not been destroyed Why do we assume people will survive and live on this earth after the coming of Jesus? Well we don’t assume. Let us again read, what the prophets of Israel foretold.
Isaiah 66: 15-16, 18-21 - “For behold, the Lord will come with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire and by His sword (rod of iron that cometh from his mouth) the Lord will judge all flesh; and the slain of the Lord shall be many. (not all being on this earth.)”
“For I know their works and their thoughts. It shall be that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see My glory. I will set a sign among them and those among them who escape I will send to the nations: to Tarshish and Pul and Lud, who draw the bow, and Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My glory among the Gentiles. They shall bring all your brethren (the Jews or Israelites) for an offering to the Lord out of all nations, on horses and in chariots, and in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy mountain Jerusalem,” says the Lord, ‘as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord. And I will also take some of them for priests and Levites,’ says the Lord.”
The picture is the same. The coming of Jesus is seen in multiple different images but they have all the same elements: fire, glory, destruction of the wicked, rod of iron to punish the nations. Yet, there is no suggestion that the earth will be totally devastated or that all life or even human life will be annihilated.
Let us actually look at the Great White Throne Judgment and the final end of death and Hades after the millennium;
Revelation 20:11-15 - “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things, which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Death and Hades will be finally destroyed. But notice that the earth and our heaven disappeared when the Almighty God, the Lord of hosts made His presence known. Where is this Throne scene? Where else but in heaven. Wait a minute. Sinful people will stand in heaven before the Throne of God? That is what the Bible says. There they are judged, by their faith or lack of faith in Jesus Christ? No, they are judged according to their works. For those who did not know Jesus, but did recognize a being or power superior to them, if they lived a righteous and moral life, they could be found in the Book of Life. If not, the lake of fire will be witness to their total destruction as well as Death and Hades too. After this moment, the problem of sin is over. Death can no longer claim any lives.
